Staurolite. Named for its cross-shaped twinning it sometimes displays, Staurolite is named for the Greek word stauros, meaning "cross.". Staurolite is a common detrital mineral and also occurs in schists, gneisses, and argillaceous rocks that are amphibole-grade metamorphosed. It is a widespread mineral, but especially fine crystal ...

Staurolite is a regional metamorphic mineral of intermediate to high grade. It occurs with almandine garnet, micas, kyanite; as well as albite, biotite, and sillimanite in gneiss and schist of regional metamorphic rocks. Staurolite is quite resistant to weathering but may alter to sericite, chlorite and limonite.

Advantages of Staurolite® and Starblast® include: Reduction of dust generation which increases visibility of blasting surface. A cleaner, faster, more efficient cleaning which lowers labor costs. Rounded to subangular grains result in less abrasive embedment. Electrically nonconductive. In using these blasting abrasives, it is always ...

Since the staurolite to sillimanite reaction has a low Gibbs free energy difference and dissolution of staurolite is considered to be slow (Pattison & Spear, 2018), a modest overstepping of 8 ...

Staurolite is a mineral that is commonly found in metamorphic rocks such as schist and gneiss. It forms when shale is strongly altered by regional metamorphism. It is often found in association with almandine garnet, muscovite, and kyanite - minerals that form under similar …

Staurolite is best recognized as stubby, elongate, brownish crystals that are crossed (twinned). The upper two specimen show two kinds of crosses, while the lower specimen is uncrossed. Yellowish brown, reddish to brownish black; vitreous (glassy) luster; stubby, prismatic crystals with pseudo-hexagonal cross section; hardness 7-7.5; poor ...

The dominant metamorphic assemblage of the metapelites is garnet, staurolite, chloritoid, chlorite, muscovite and quartz, which grew mainly syntectonically during the later contact metamorphic event. Peak metamorphic conditions of this event took place at 580 °C and ~3–4 kbar, indicating that this event occurred under high …
