On paper, the A350-1000 is far more capable than the 787-10, although as mentioned its capabilities come at a weight cost. But there is one area we have not compared: price. Boeing 787-10: $338.4 million. Airbus A350-1000: $355.7 million. As you can see, the Boeing 787 is cheaper.

This was seen as a replacement for the aging but popular Boeing 757. It was expected to be larger than the 757, with a capacity of around 220 and a range of 8,300 kilometers. A stretched version with capacity up to 267 was also rumored. These plans were never confirmed, or a 797 officially launched.

Airlines still want it: Although some Boeing customers have sought a product solution from Airbus, some are still keenly waiting for the 797 announcement. Delta's CEO Ed Bastian was reported by Bloomberg last year as saying that he hopes they will do it, and other Boeing customers doubtless feel the same.

With a range of up to 5,000 miles, the proposed Boeing 797 is touted as a replacement for the older 757 and 767 models. If Boeing decides to build it soon, it could be in service by 2025.

The idea behind the Boeing 797, officially referred to as the NMA (New Midsize Aircraft or New Midsize Airplane), is to fill a niche in the market. The type – first discussed in 2015 – would be available in two versions: a 225-seater and a 275-seater. The former would have a 5000-NM (9,300 km) range, while the latter, 4,500 NM (8,300 km).

Published Nov 27, 2018. The B797, while being open worked on, hasn't officially been signed off by Boeing executives yet. Despite this, Airbus is already planning to compete with the aircraft by tweaking the A330neo. The first A330-900neo was recently delivered to TAP, while the A330-800neo is still undergoing the final preparations.

The plane will have a range of around 5,200 miles and will have a capacity of 220-270 passengers. In comparison, the 767 has a range of slightly less than 6,000 miles and has a capacity of 180-320 passengers, so the 797 will not be able to fly as long as the 767 but will have approximately the same amount of passengers.
